We are proud and honored to announce that ThriveFast has been chosen as an American Small Business Champion by SCORE and Sam’s Club.
The American Small Business Championship (championship.score.org) awarded the title to 102 small businesses, two in every state and the District of Columbia, for their sacrifices and dedication to the success of their business. The American Small Business Champions each received a $1,000 Sam’s Club gift card, an all-expense-paid trip to a training event, SCORE mentoring for one year, and promotion throughout the year to showcase each Champion’s story.
We are honored to have been chosen and look forward to attending the training event and connecting with our very own SCORE mentor to really take our business to the next level.
The SharePoint Calendar Content Type includes an “All Day Event” Yes/No Checkbox Field. By default, this value is set to false. If you want to default this value to True, you have to use a little jQuery in your NewForm.aspx. Perform the following steps to default the All Day Event Field to True:
1. Go to your Calendar List. Select the “List” Tab.
2. Click the “Form Web Parts” drop down and select the “New Form”
3. Add a Content Editor Webpart to the page.
4. Download the latest jQuery.Min file and upload to the Site Assets folder on your SharePoint.
5. Insert the following code into the “Edit Source” of the Content Editor Webpart:
$('#ctl00_ctl34_g_269284a8_768b_44ec_b1e1_43bd1b219be7_ctl00_ctl05_ctl06_ctl00_ctl00_ctl04_ctl00_ctl00_AllDayEventField').attr("checked","checked"); // checks All Day Event
$('tr:has(span[title=All Day Event])').not('tr:has(tr)').hide();
5. Save and Close. You should now see the All Day Event Field checked when you open the New Form.
When trying to open an Office 365 site in SharePoint Designer 2013 you may encounter the following error:
“We are unable to connect right now. Please check your network settings and try again later”
Perform the following steps to fix:
1. On the local computer, browse to the following folder:
2. Delete all files and folders in this directory.
3. On the local computer, browse to the following folder:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
4. Delete all files in this directory
5. Try opening the site in SharePoint Designer again. It should work.
When administering Office 365 Mid-Business or Enterprise accounts I use tools such as the Exchange Admin Center; however, Office 365 Small Business aims to “simplify” the end user experience. Unfortunately, this means the Exchange Admin Center functionality has gone missing. It also means there is no out-of-the-box way via the GUI to add additional aliases to groups.
Right about now some of you may start screaming “PowerShell!” Sure, I know this is a solution and I’ve used it.
But take heart this isn’t just an epic rant with no suggestion. A Special thanks to Ms. Heather Moore for discovering that you can still access the Exchange Admin Center even with an Office 365 Small Business Account.
Now manage your email accounts, groups, aliases, as you would in mid business.
Hope this helps!
When branding SharePoint, you may notice that some of your branding elements (header, footer, etc) show up in the SharePoint Modal Pop Up Windows as well. So, how do you hide these elements so that they don’t show up in the Modal Window? It’s as simple as adding a class to your element.
For any element you wish to hide from Modal Windows, simply append the .ms-dialogHidden class to your element’s class.
For example, if you have the following container for your header:
<div id="header" class="header"></div>
To hide from the Modal Window, you should change to this:
<div id="header" class="header .ms-dialogHidden"></div>
If your SharePoint Environment is running slow check to see if noderunner.exe is running in your processes and taking up too much memory. This application is part of Search and can cause memory leaks, slowing down performance.
To fix, Run this command in SharePoint Management Shell:
Set-SPEnterpriseSearchService -PerformanceLevel Reduced
select database_id, type, size * 8.0 / 1024 size
Name as 'DB Name',
(select sum(size) from fs where type = 0 and fs.database_id = db.database_id) 'Data File Size MB',
(select sum(size) from fs where type = 1 and fs.database_id = db.database_id) 'Log File Size MB'
from sys.databases db
This SQL Script is very useful when trying to quickly determine the physical size of a SQL Server database. We’ve used this script several times many times when planning SharePoint Migration to SharePoint Online or Office 365. We’ve also used this script to help identify potential performance and storage issues.
It’s common practice for SharePoint Developers to develop on a virtual machine running Windows Server 2012, SharePoint, Visual Studio, etc. Many things have changed for the better in SharePoint 2013 including branding. SharePoint designer is no longer required for, nor is the tool of choice for branding. Designers / Developers can now simply map a drive to SharePoint’s master page gallery and edit or create branding files with a favorite editor such as Dream Weaver, Visual Studio, etc.
To map a drive to the master page gallery you’ll need to use SharePoint’s Open In Explorer View.
Issue: Open In Explorer View doesn’t work on Windows Server 2012
- Add the Desktop Feature
- Make sure WebClient Windows Service is running
Note: The WebClient Service is running by default on Windows 7 and 8 machines but not on servers.
What is Lync?
Lync is the primary client software for Lync Server that provides presence, contact management, instant messaging (IM), conferencing, and telephony features.
Lync is a first class citizen and most at home on Windows Systems. However, with Microsoft’s new “Online First” cloud computing initiative we have witnessed a new found commitment to cross device and cross browser support. For example, Microsoft has released mobile versions of Microsoft Office for iPhone and iPad.
With all this said meetings can easily be scheduled through Outlook by selecting New Items –> Lync Meeting.
If you are not using Outlook or Windows you may wish to schedule a meeting completely through a web browser. You can use https://sched.lync.com to accomplish this.
ThriveFast had the pleasure of presenting the entire SharePoint Track at the 2014 Tulsa School of Dev.
